10-26: The 2007-09 JPFD Fire Wire
April 27, 2008: Around 3:30pm E118, E128, L117, S159, DC140 (C) responded to a reported fire at Clara and Lauricella. Crews found smoke coming from under the house during a light rain shower. The small fire was quickly contained.
April 6th, 2008: Around 4:19am A platoon received a call for a church fire in the 4400 block of Jefferson Highway. Arriving units found fire pouring out of the sanctuary of the Jefferson Presbyterian Church, and a 2nd alarm was immediately struck. The fire which started due to lighting was under control in 30 minutes.
March 31, 2008: John George "Buddy" or "Chief" Hein, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 in Hammond, LA. He was 96 years old. A lifelong resident of Metairie, LA moving there in 1917 at the age of six. Buddy saw Metairie grow and was a member of "The Good Ole Metry Boys". He helped build the first fire house and served as a volunteer fireman until 1952 when he became one of the first paid Jefferson Parish Fireman. He retired as District Chief in 1974. During WWII he served in the First Special Service Force and saw action in Italy (Anzio), France, Germany, Holland and Norway. He received a citation from King Olaf for his participation in the liberation of Norway. The family especially acknowledges the loving care given by Donna Landry and the staff of Richard Murphy Hospice House. Buddy's daughters would like to thank Patricia Westmoreland and all the supporters of Hospice House who were there for us in every way. The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Wednesday morning, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. One of the First JPFD Firemen Passes Away (taken from nola.com)
January 1, 2008: Around 4:45am stations 16, 17, and DC160(C) were called to a reported fire at the popeyes in the 4700 block of Veterans. Arriving units found smoke coming from the structure and called for a second alarm. Stations 14,18, S159, DC140, and AC102 responded on the 2nd. The fire was quickly knocked down in the bitterly cold night.
October 4, 2007: On a rainy day E168, S169 were dispatched to a car in building car at Airline and Cleary while E138 was on another call. E168 canceled the squad and determined that there was no significant damage to the building or injuries to the victims.
The JPFD is expected to switch to the new LATIE radio system on 1/4/08...The department has recently posted and accepted bids for one new 100 foot Ferrara tower ladder and for 2 new engines, one of which will be a Snozzle. This marks the first time that a Snozzle like apparatus will enter service in the department since the last one was taken out of service in the early 80's...A new website has been created which showcases pictures of the New Orleans Fire Department. 2 Alarm Fire at Truck Pro
December 4th, 2008: Firefighters responded to a late night automatic fire alarm at Truck Pro located in Elmwood on Powell. E198 reported smoke showing. The call was uplgraded to a working fire and a 2nd alarm was struck immediately. The bulk of the fire was contained by the sprinklers in the facility.
Two Car Accident on Central Avenue
July 14th, 2008: The JPFD was dispatched to a reported accident with injury at Central and Morris Place. The arriving units encountered a two car wreck with one car resting near a leaning power pole. After determing that everyone was ok. Engine 118 (B) returned all companies, notified Entergy, and waited for LSP
